Cosmetic products are used to make people beautify.

Main components of cosmetic products:

  • Paints
  • Humidifiers
  • Perfumes
  • Solvents
  • Antimicrobial substances

Most of the substances used in cosmetic production are toxic. It has been found that the incidence of lymphoma cancer is high especially if the hair dye is used frequently.

Sodium Lauryl Sulfate - SLS

SLS is used in 90 percent of personal care products such as shampoo, toothpaste, shaving cream, mouthwash, soap, laundry detergent, facial cleanser, shower gel.

Known Harmful Effects of SLS

  • Mouth ulcers, skin inflammation, headache, dry skin, burning eyes
  • Irritation of the skin and dryness of the skin
  • Release of toxic gases such as sulfur oxide and sodium oxide when heated
  • Biological potential for aquatic organisms by polluting underground water resources.
  • Eye irritation and cataract in adults
  • Skin and muscles forming fat and proteins wear
  • Possessing impurities of nitrates and other solvents used in production
  • Easily pass through the membranes of body cells and make them more vulnerable to entry of other chemicals into cells

Talc powder

Found in powders, eye shadow, blush, bronzers, lip protectors, baby powder.
Research has shown that this substance causes cancer.

Vaseline, Liquid Paraffin and Mineral Oils

Available in face and skin moisturizers, serums, masks and sunscreens. They are used in humidifiers because of their softening properties.
These substances form a layer on the skin to prevent the body’s self-dampening mechanism.
Vaseline slows down skin activity and cell maturation, causing premature aging.

Dioxin

It is found in the pharmaceutical industry, in some paints, detergents, plastic containers, shampoo, body foam and some soaps (PEG, polyethylene, polyoxyethylene, polyethylene glycol, nonoxynol, oxinol, polysorbate 60 and polysorbate 80 chemicals).
It causes cancer when it accumulates in the body for a long time.

Paraben

Preserves the shelf life of cosmetic products (methylparaben, butylparaben, ethylparaben and
used in different forms such as propylparaben).
Research supports the results that paraben

  • increases the risk of breast cancer,
  • increases skin damage when exposed to UV rays.

In Turkey, in 2011, according to a statement issued by the Ministry of Health,

  • When taken orally, due to the acid environment in the stomach is high and the amount of passing into the blood is almost negligible.
  • There is no proven scientific data to show that it has a toxic effect on the body and to direct cancer in humans.

The results of the research in Turkey when compared with the results of research in Japan and UK is quite surprising and thought-provoking.

Colorants - Synthetic dyes

Researches on the coloring of cosmetic products starting with FD & C (eg FD & C Orange 5 Lake) reveal that these synthetic dyestuffs are definitely carcinogenic.

In these paints, elements such as lead, aluminum, potassium and barium are used to prevent the flow and contamination of colors in lipsticks.

Lanolin, Glycerin and Silicone

Lanolin is found in lip protectors and lip gloss;

Glycerin is found in moisturizers, facial cleansers, toothpastes;

Silicone is found in sunscreen, eye cosmetics, cleansers, bronzers and acne treatment products.

These products lead to clogging of the pores to prevent normal breathing of the skin and cause acne.

FORMOL

Found in mascara and nail polish.
It is a carcinogenic substance.

Phthalate

Used in nail polish, perfume, lotion and hair sprays.

Phthalate increases the risk of breast cancer and also damages breast development in adolescent women.

PABA (Para-aminobenzoic acid, Padimate-O, Octyl dimethyl PABA)

Found in facial moisturizers and sunscreens.

Research shows that these substances can cause skin cancer.

Triclosan (Antibacterial)

Shampoos, deodorants, toothpastes and perfumes contain Triclosan.

Causes the skin surface to dry and prevent the skin from breathing.

Triclosan interacts with chlorine in water, converts it into carcinogenic substances, chloroform and dioxin, and has a carcinogenic effect in long-term use.

Triclosan has a negative effect on thyroid hormones as well as causing eczema.

In addition, they lead to the development of new bacteria resistant to antibacterial.
